Washington, D.C., September 10, 1999 House passes VA/HUD bill with public housing cuts Senate has yet to produce a bill The House of Representatives passed the VA/HUD and Independent Agencies Appropriations bill, H.R. 2684, last night on a vote of 235-187. See how your Member of Congress voted on Roll Call No. 403. The legislation passed despite objections by many Democrats to cuts in public housing operating and capital funding and the lack of Section 8 incrementals. Members of both parties were also concerned about the $1 billion cut to the NASA budget. The House bill will eventually have to be reconciled with the Senate VA/HUD legislation. However, the Senate subcommittee with responsibility for funding these programs has yet to produce a bill and, at this time, has not even scheduled a markup. The Senate subcommittee is chaired by Senator Christopher Bond (R-MO).
PHADA will provide information on the Senate legislation as it becomes available.
