Two Executive Director Education courses scheduled for Anaheim

PHADA will hold another round of Executive Director Education Program (EDEP) training immediately prior to the 2000 Commissioners Conference in Anaheim, California. The courses will be offered on January 6 and 7 at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel.

EDEP is modeled after the state of New Jersey’s successful executive director certification program, administered by Rutgers University. Participants completing all ten courses offered in the program will receive a special certificate from Rutgers and PHADA. The next two courses include one on public housing maintenance management and another on the Public Housing Assessment System/Section 8 Management Assement Program (PHAS/SEMAP).

The course on maintenance management includes such diverse topics as budget preparation, staffing, quality control, work order systems, resident involvement, and insurance and liability. This one-day program addressees each of these issues and uses examples of well-maintained PHAs to illustrate the concepts being taught.

The other course reviews the theory behind PHAS/SEMAP and provides a detailed explanation of each of the HUD indicators, including how each is measured and graded. The use of PHAS/SEMAP as managment tools is discussed, and participants are shown how to improve their authority's score through a systems approach.

Both courses will be taught by Paul Collins of Quadel Consulting Corporation. Registration forms for the courses will be available soon. For further information, interested persons can contact PHADA at 202-546-5445.
