Mayors, industry organizations
write Congress concerning
proposed changes to HCV

PHADA has received two letters that were recently sent to Congress protesting HUD's recent changes to the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. The letters cover current changes and some that HUD has proposed for FY '05.

A letter from the U.S. Conference of Mayors is addressed to Representative James Walsh (R-NY) and Senator Christopher Bond (R-MO), both of whom are chairmen of their respective houses' Subcommittee on VA-HUD Appropriations. The letter urges Walsh and Bond to "direct HUD to fully fund the HCV under the Fiscal Year 2004 Consolidated Appropriations bill to avoid tenant hardship, dislocation, and eviction."

Another letter was sent to all Members of Congress by 10 housing organizations. It details concerns the organizations have concerning funding levels for the HCV program. Organizations signing the letter include the following: the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging; the Council for Affordable and Rural Housing; the Institute of Real Estate Management; the National Affordable Housing Management Association; the National Apartment Association; the National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders; the National Association of Home Builders; the National Leased Housing Association; the National Low Income Housing Coalition; and the National Multi Housing Council.
