Public housing is facing a critical period. Congress is considering the fiscal year 2009 budget with a historically low proration of 81 percent, a major housing authorization bill, and industry-backed legislation regarding asset management. Executive directors must send a strong message to Congress. As always, PHADA urges its membership to contact their elected officials to discuss ways to help ensure adequate funding for public housing. And what better way to contact your elected representatives than by a face-to-face meeting? The 2008 Legislative Forum will focus on helping housing professionals visit Capitol Hill and HUD to meet with key housing policymakers. While the Board of Trustees and committee members are strongly encouraged to attend, PHADA invites all executive directors to participate in this timely two-day meeting.
PHADA/Rutgers Executive Director Education Program (EDEP) classes will be offered September 5 –6 (see course schedule below).
PHADA committee members and trustees should plan on arriving in time for meetings that start Sunday morning, September 7.

The PHADA/Rutgers University Executive Director Education Program (EDEP) will continue Sept. 5-6, 2008 in conjunction with the 2008 Annual Legislative Forum. Two courses will be offered:
-
Planning for Change - Friday, September 5 (Click here to register for this class)
This course provides executive directors with the management tools and skills necessary to adapt to the changes taking place at HUD. Emphasis is placed on strategic planning and creative problem-solving.
-
Ethics - Saturday, September 6 (Click here to register for this class)
This seminar is designed to familiarize participants with the ethical standards and legal requirements relevant to public housing authority officials. Typical state statutes and HUD regulations are examined and applied to ethical issues faced by executive directors using a case study approach.
Click here to register for both classes at the reduced rate.
EDEP registration is available on the Legislative Forum registration form. No separate form is required.
EDEP registrants please note: On-site registrations are not accepted for the EDEP Program, and class size is limited to 40. Classes have been filling up, so early registration is recommended.
