Executive Director Education Program
Executive Director Education courses scheduled for Washington, DC

September 12-13, 2000 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill

Courses to be offered in Washington

September 12 - Personnel Management
This one-day course familiarizes executive directors with the principles of managing people to achieve established goals. Specific management tools, such as performance appraisal systems, are explained, and the components of a good personnel policy are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the role of the executive director in the leading and motivating housing authority staff.

September 13 - Public Relations
When should a press conference be held? Who are the local media, and what do they want? This useful seminar addresses these questions and more ... including how to write and distribute press releases, how to develop a quality newsletter, how to improve the image of the housing authority, how to develop and maintain press contacts, and how to manage the media during a crisis.

The Executive Director Education Program (EDEP) will continue on September 12 and 13 in Washington, DC, in conjunction with PHADA's 2000 Legislative Conference. Two courses will be offered -- Personnel Management and Public Relations. Each course will be offered once -- Personnel Management on September 12 and Public Relations on September 13.

EDEP is modeled after the state of New Jersey's successful executive director certification program, administered by Rutgers University. Participants completing all ten courses offered in the program will receive a special certificate from Rutgers and PHADA. Refer to www.phada.org/edep.html for an overview of the EDEP Program.
