Productive Organizational Meetings and Timely Sessions
John Hodge, PHADA President
PHADA held its 2020 Commissioners’ Conference in Phoenix in early January. Attended by roughly 600 Commissioners, Executive Directors and agency staff, the meeting was a big success. It gave us an opportunity to address several important policy and organizational matters, and included a number of timely and informational sessions. Some of the meeting’s highlights are outlined below.
We began by reviewing the FY 20 HUD appropriations package, which was enacted into law right before the holidays. This time last year, we were dealing with the uncertainty of a partial government shutdown. Fortunately, that was avoided this time around. The FY 20 spending deal includes increases in the Housing Choice Voucher, Section 8 Project Based, Administrative Fee and Capital Fund accounts. Meanwhile, we estimate the Operating Fund to be in the mid 90 percent range. You can read full details on the legislation in the January 5 edition of the Advocate.
