HUD Now Accepting Applications for Emergency Safety and Security Grant Program

New Priority for Small HAs

Last week, HUD announced that it is now accepting applications for the Fiscal Year 2024 Public Housing Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program (ESSG). Members should consult PIH Notice 2023-10 for eligible uses of funds and other requirements, and should note that the maximum award amount is $250,000. Applications are due March 27, 2024, at 5:00 pm ET.

HUD will make awards through a lottery that ensures geographic diversity and prioritizes HAs with fewer than 250 public housing units.

The Department is hosting an informational webinar on February 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm ET that will provide additional details on the ESSG program and this solicitation. A link to the webinar is available in the funding announcement above.

Members should note that the anticipated total award amount of $10 million is based on anticipated appropriations, and funds will not be distributed until Congress passes a final appropriations bill. HUD may adjust the final award amount when that occurs.
