Government Reopens After a Record 43-Day Shutdown

On November 12, the House approved a Continuing Resolution (CR) to reopen the federal government after 43 days, the longest shutdown in U.S. history. Passed mainly along partisan lines and signed by the president, the measure follows the Senate’s approval on November 9.

The CR funds Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and the Legislative Branch through FY 26 and continues funding for all other agencies through January 30, 2026. Federal layoffs put in place at the start of the shutdown are reversed.
