Deadline to Request Public Housing Shortfall Funding is May 5

All Eligible Agencies Likely to Receive Some of the $337 Million Set-Aside

On April 20, HUD released Notice PIH 2026-10, Implementation of Public Housing Operating Fund Shortfall Funding from Federal Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations. The deadline to apply for the $337 million in public housing operating fund shortfall set-aside funding included in FY 26 appropriations is May 5 at 5:00 pm ET

Unlike prior years, all eligible agencies are likely to receive some funding. The $337 million in set-aside appropriations is over thirteen times greater than the $25 million per year previously available, and HUD has removed the priority rankings based on size. Agencies are urged to review the notice and the linked eligibility listings to determine if they are eligible. All eligible agencies are encouraged to apply via the public housing portal prior to the May 5 deadline. The deadline to appeal HUD’s eligibility determination is also May 5.

Members with questions about the notice are encouraged to contact PHADA staff individually, or email: policy@phada.org. PHADA will provide additional analysis in the forthcoming edition of the Advocate.
