PHADA/Rutgers University Executive Director Education Program (EDEP)
Due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the January 2021 EDEP courses, Personnel Management and Maintenance Management, will be held virtually. These courses are open to both new and current students.
The courses will be held via Rutgers' Canvas online learning platform. Christine Cicio and her department at Rutgers have transitioned many workshops to this platform recently and have received great feedback. Rutgers will also offer technical support and trial runs for students and faculty to ensure everyone is setup for success.
Each course will take place over the course of a week and will be structured as follows. Course descriptions are included at the bottom of this page.
Each course consists of:
- 3.5-Hours of live virtual instruction on Day 1
- Independent student learning activities during the week in Canvas
- 1-Hour wrap-up and exam in Canvas on Day 7
- Personnel Management: March 3-9, 2021 OR March 18-24, 2021*
- Maintenance Management: April 7-13, 2021 OR April 21-27, 2021*
*Students will be assigned to a cohort based on their tenure in the EDEP program. Each cohort will be assigned to one of the sets of dates.
If you have any questions, please contact Norma Bellew at firstname.lastname@example.org.
EDEP Course Descriptions
Faculty: Jeffrey Driscoll
This one-day course familiarizes executive directors with the principles of managing people to achieve established goals. Specific management tools, such as performance appraisal systems, are explained, and the components of a good personnel policy are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the role of the executive director in the leading and motivating housing authority staff.
Maintenance Management includes such diverse topics as budget preparation, staffing, quality control, work order systems, resident involvement, and insurance and liability. This one-day program addresses each of these issues and uses examples of well-maintained public housing authorities to illustrate the concepts learned.
Consent to use photographic images: Registration and attendance constitutes an agreement by the registrant to use their image or voice in photographs, video recording, or other electronic reproductions by PHADA of such event or activities.
